Local News PUBLISHED: On Monday, Sept. 17, Kalkaska County Sheriff Bill Artress reported that Joseph Ryan Mooring, 23, of Traverse City had been charged with three felony crimes for his involvement in the armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Mooring currently is lodged in the Kalkaska County jail on a $200,000 cash or surety bond, set on Monday, by Judge Lynne M. Buday of the 46th Circuit Trial in Kalkaska, according to KSO. On Tuesday, Sept. 18, KSO reported the second suspect, Roger Demaray, 19, of Traverse City, who allegedly was wielding a knife during the robbery, had been arrested and was scheduled to be arraigned on two felony counts: armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. According to KSO, central dispatch received a 911 call from an employee of the East Lake General Store, who described a black male entering the store, wielding a large knife and ordering the clerk to open the register. After reaching in for the cash the subject fled on foot from the scene. Witnesses identified another individual present prior to the incident, who appeared to have been assisting in casing the store, according to KSO. The release stated that deputies received information that led them to Morring on the side of Ingersoll Road in Springfield Twp. He attempted to flee from officers while he was being questioned. After a short foot chase, Morring was tackled and forcibly taken in to custody, the KSO release stated. Morring's charges are as follows: Count 1: Conspiracy to Robbery - Armed Felony: Life or any term of years, unless aggravated assault or serious injury involved, then not less then 2 years and $10,000.00 fine. Count 2: Robbery - Armed Felony: Life or any term of years, unless aggravated assault or serious injury involved, then not less then 2 years and $10,000 fine. Count 3: Police Office - Assaulting/Resisting/ Obstructing Did assault, batter, wound, resist, obstruct, oppose or endanger a police officer while performing his or her duties. Felony: 2 years and/or $2,000. Habitual Offender - Third Notice Penalty: Twice the maximum sentence on the primary offense or lesser term.
