He was born July 10, 1931, in Kalkaska to the late Elger and Thelma (Cross) Brooks.

A lifelong resident of Kalkaska, Devere married Inis Sherlock on June 8, 1951. Together they raised two children. Devere enjoyed gardening and his little dog Benji. Ever the family man, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather.

Devere was a member of the Sheriff 's Association and the 700 Club.

Surviving Devere is his loving wife of 56 years, Inis; children, Rosemarie Brooks, and Randy (Jeanne) Brooks, both of Kalkaska; granddaughter, Leighann Brooks of Kalkaska; greatgrandchildren, Trenton and Brennah of Kalkaska; and his sister Patricia Neuman of Cadillac.

Visitation for Devere was Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Wolfe- O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Dan Johnson of the Kalkaska Church of Christ of- ficiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Devere's memory to the American Heart Association.
