KALKASKA - The second
annual Blazer Bash
proved the community
wants the before school celebration
and opportunity to
meet teachers and visit
classrooms.
More than 1,100 free hot
dogs were served during the
event last Thursday, according
to Debbie Ball-Odeh,
Bash chairperson.
"It takes so many volunteers
and businesses to help
us pull off this celebration,"
Ball-Odeh said. "This year,
our business community really
came through and all
expenses were paid through
donations of cash, product
or services.
"We had over 20 volunteers
who helped from the
planning through the event
itself, plus many folks who
jumped in to help with set
up or tear down. Everyone
really stepped up this year
to make this happen."
The event, held in the
south parking lot of the
middle school, included free
food, courtesy of the
Kalkaska Parent Teacher Organization and many
community members and
businesses. There were
inflatables and a "Berry Go
Round" ride set up by Fun
Services from Grand Rapids.
The Kalkaska Public
Library had a booth that included
an assortment of free
books, magazines and videos.
"Best of all, our school
families are able to come
together and celebrate this
new school year," Ball-
Odeh said. "The Bash is a
positive beginning for a productive
and wonderful
year."
