BEAR LAKE TWP. -
Last Saturday, more than
110 people participated in
the fourth annual Pat
Modos II Memorial Ride
for Special Olympics. The
event raised $3,100, according
to Pat "Pops"
Modos, event organizer
and owner of Dingman's
Bar.
"It's a ride to remember
Pat," Pops said. "He was
one of the best type of individuals
you could ever meet.
Once you met him, he knew
you and would come up and
greet you."
Pastor David Rosenberg
of the Bear Lake Christian
Church delivered a message
about Pat's life and blessed
the 70 bikes before the ride.
"Pat loved the freedom of
riding," Rosenberg said. "It
is in memory of this unselfish
man that we ride."
The money raised from
the event goes directly to the
Michigan Special Olympics.
"We sponsor the winter
games at the Grand
Traverse Resort in February,"
Pops said.
The memorial ride began
at Dingman's, continued
to the Hollywood Bar
in Lake City, then to the
Silver Dollar Bar in
Higgins Lake and back to
Dingman's.
"We want to thank our
sponsors," Pops said.
Sponsors included the
bars on the ride, Woodland
Creek and Timber Wolf golf
courses, and Comfort Heating.
