Lyle married Joyce E. Darke on September 2, 1939, in Ohio. In 1968, he retired from the Chevrolet dealership in Bellaire a job he truly enjoyed. Lyle's other interests were wood carving and hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Joyce; daughter, Jo Ann Church of Wyoming, Mich.; four grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Lyle in death were his parents; his children, Larry Kniss and Cheryl Nobel; and his greatgranddaughter, Jessica Joyce Hudson.

Funeral services for Lyle were held Sunday, July 15, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska, with Pastor Bruce Standfest of the Open Doors Ministry officiating. Burial will be at Oliver Township Cemetery.
