Burgin, the managing partner of Arbor, said the plan is for individual living quarters, geared toward retirees, but not exclusive to them. "The site plan is for 23 individual building units," he said. "Our vision is for the retiree to move there, but not solely for retirees." Northern Land Company has owned the property for several years according to Burgin, now the project waits for an approval from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). In order to continue with the project, Burgin and company need the goahead from the DEQ to connect to existing sewage lines. He hopes since the project doesn't call for a brand new sewer system, the approval won't take long to obtain. "The major step is getting approval from the DEQ for sewer connection," he said. "Before we can construct sewer lines, we need that approval. Since we aren't building anything new, rather just tapping into an existing line, we hope the process happens as soon as possible. It's not a monumental project." Burgin said the group hopes to begin construction this year, pending approval from the DEQ. Village manager Bill Cousins also hopes the approval comes, so construction can begin. "I think it's a fantastic idea for family homes to go in," Cousins said. "Two- and threebedroom homes will be available and I really like the idea." |
