As of Thursday, July 5, 60 percent of the trail was complete, according to Russ LaRowe, KART Trail committee co-chair. "All the asphalt and back blading is done. The fencing is largely done," LaRowe said. "Elmer's is backfilling and doing hydroseed." Bike racks and benches will be in place by the end of July. Drinking fountains also are scheduled to be placed along the trail. The only landscaping bed in place is the one located near the entrance of the parking lot at the Kaliseum. A total of 28 beds will grace the two-mile loop by this fall. "Some are designed to not have water and others will be hit by irrigation," LaRowe said. "Year one, the conservation district will water those in need of water. In year two, it will be the donors' responsibility." Each bed has a donor, to be recognized with an engraved stone placed in or near each bed. The engraved stones will be completed and on display at the ribbon cutting ceremony. |
