Four FA soccer players earn league honors

FIFE LAKE - Although they didn't win a game this season, it was obvious to the Ski Valley Conference coaches that Forest Area's girls soccer team had talent.

That was reflected when the coaches voted for All-League selections.

Coach Ron Stremlow reported that four of his players earned Honorable Mention status, and one came close to being put on the Second Team.

"She was tied with another girl, and missed out on the tiebreaker," Stremlow said. "But, hey, that's pretty good. I was really proud of all the girls for their efforts this year.

"We were a young team, and if all of the girls who can do come back next year, I think we'll be pretty good. They learned a lot this year."

Tina Preston, who made 21 saves in the Warriors' 6-0 loss to Suttons Bay in the opening round of the district tournament last week, received Honorable Mention honors as a goalkeeper.

Earning recognition for their efforts on offense were forwards Emily Pojar and Cassie Magee, while Kari Helsel was Honorable Mention on defense.

"We have 15 players coming back next year, and with the experience they had this season, I'm expecting good things from all of them," Stremlow said.

"I couldn't be prouder of the girls who received league honors."
