KALKASKA - The 4-H
Farmer's Market opened last Friday
and will be open every Friday
from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. through
the end of August, in the village
parking lot across from the Kalkaska
Post Office, according to
organizer Jim Harper, director of
the Kalkaska office of Michigan
State University Extension.
4-H has partnered with Community
Mental Health to assist
clients with independent living
skills, job skills and social interaction.
4-H members will be
mentoring the CMH clients at the
markets in both Kalkaska and in
Rapid City this summer.
The market in Rapid City will
be in the front lawn of Clearwater
Township, in Heritage Park every
Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1
p.m. through the end of August.
"The funds go to buy produce,
pay CMH clients for their work
and for stipends to the kids for
mentoring,"Harper said. "Any
leftover funds will go to CMH.Ó
"The markets will be open at
least through the end of August
or until school starts,"he said.
