Car seat prevents infant injury



KALKASKA - The Kalkaska Village Police Department responded to an accident at the intersection of Birch and Dresden streets just past 9 a.m. Monday, June 11.

According to KVPD, Brian Banister, 39 of Kalamazoo, was travelling westbound on Dresden, in his Chevy S-10 pick-up truck. He was looking for Birch Street and did not see the stop sign reported the KVPD.

He struck a GMC Suburban in the passenger side door. The Suburban was driven by 45-year-old Moses Tuller of Kalkaska. Tuller was driving northbound on Birch Street. His wife, Patricia, 36, was in the passenger seat. Their 5-monthold daughter was safely buckled in her car seat in the back seat and was unharmed, according to KVPD.

The jaws of life were used to free Patricia from the vehicle.

KVPD was assisted by Kalkaska Station 7 and the Kalkaska County Sheriff Department, as well as Kalkaska EMS, who transported Mrs. Tuller to the hospital.

According to KVPD, Banister was issued a citation for failing to stop and not having proper insurance.
