According to the investigating officer at the Kalkaska County Sheriff Office, the truck was traveling westbound on CR- 612. When the truck stopped to turn left onto Twin Birch, one westbound vehicle went around. The second vehicle, the Jeep Liberty, failed to stop and ran into the rear end of the pick-up. The accident pushed both vehicles into the east and west-bound lanes, blocking traffic.

Ambulances transported one driver to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center and the other to Munson Hospital. Both drivers were treated for injuries and released. The names of the drivers were not released.

According to a source at Manistee Lake Garage, which transported the damaged vehicles from the accident site, both the SUV and the truck were considered a total loss.
