Kinney double league champion



BELLAIRE -Forest Area's boys track and field team made an impressive showing at the Ski Valley Conference championship meet on Monday, May 21.

The Warriors scored 84 points, and were fourth overall behind league champion Onaway (108), runnerup Mancelona (101) and third place Bellaire (99).

Greg Kinney was a two-time league champion, taking the gold medal in the 400meter dash with a time of 52.6 seconds and winning the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches to lead the Warriors.

The Warriors won the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:41.26. Also earning All-Conference honors and taking a medal as well was Johnny Brown, who finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.51 seconds in a close race against Mancelona's Adam Duerksen (11.31).

Forest Area's 400-meter relay team came in second to take All-Conference honors with a time of 45.93 seconds. Brandon Archambault had a medal-winning effort in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in a time of 54.72 seconds. Travis Park earned a medal in the 400 as well with a sixth place in 57.55 seconds.

Park finished second in the discus for All-Conference honors with a throw of 109 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Archambault also made All-Conference in the event with a throw of 104 feet, 1 inch for third.

The Warriors had another All-Conference performer in Brandon Rookus, who finished third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 44.86 seconds.

Justin Gordon made All-Conference as well with his third place finish in the 200meter dash with a time of 24.09 seconds. Park got a medal in the shot put when he placed fourth with a throw of 37 feet, 10 3/4 inches.

Forest Area's girls team finished with eight points. Inland Lakes edged Johannesburg-Lewiston, 104-102 for the title. Emily Pojar was All-Conference in the 800-meter run with a third place in a time of 2:42.65.
