Charlevoix wrapped up the boys title with 133.5 points, while the Stags took second place with 112. Distance runner Paul Grieve shined the brightest for the Blazers, capturing the 1600-meter run in a time of 4:30.9 and winning the 3200 with a time of 9:50.5. Nick Higgins added a third gold medal to the Blazers' cache when he won the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 9 inches to best Charlevoix's Ray Jones, who was second with a toss of 47 feet. His teammate, Garrett Guy, finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 8 inches. In an exciting finish, Kalkaska's 800-meter relay team of Mike Cleggett, Marc Wallace, Josh Wakefield and Ryan Lietow sped to a victory, edging Kingsley's crew by barely one second ... finishing in a time of 1:33.4 while the Stags came in second with a time of 1:34.3. The Blazers also qualified their 3200-meter relay team for the state championships on Saturday, June 2, when that crew took third place in a time of 8:24. Ryan Lietow made it to the finals as well with a second place finish in the 100meter dash with a time of 11.2 seconds. Mike Cleggett is also going to state after his third place finish in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 41.3 seconds. Kalkaska's 3200-meter relay team of Cleggett, Wallace, Jesse Moggo and Lietow finished seventh in a time of 3:42.90. Katie Robinson qualified for the girls team, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 106 feet, 2 inches. Charlevoix won the team title in the girls meet with 112 points, with Benzie Central second with 87.5 and Boyne City third with 74. Amanda Cronin finished eighth in the long jump for the Blazers with a leap of 13 feet, 11 inches. Robinson picked up a sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 1 inch.
