KASKA - Rhonda Lou Headapohl, 47, was arrested on Friday, May 11, when she turned herself in on two felony warrants that were issued by Kalkaska County Prosecutor Brian Donnelly, according to a release from the Kalkaska County Sheriff Office. The two warrants are for: embezzlement,Êagent or trustee, $1,000 or more but less than $20,000/penalty five years and/or $10,000 or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater; and embezzlement, public official, over $50/ penalty 10 years or a $5,000 fine, according to KSO. The charges stem from an investigation into missing departmental entrusted funds in early 2005 which linked the monies to Headapohl, a records clerk at the time, the release stated. Following an independent internal investigation by the MISSION team from the Michigan Sheriffs Association, Headapohl's employment was immediately terminated in late December of 2005, according to the KSO release. The investigation was subsequently turned over to Kalkaska prosecutor Brian Donnelly for his review. Donnelly issued the two felony warrants on Headapohl after his review of the incident, the release stated. Headapohl was arraigned in front of Judge Lynn Buday for the 46th Circuit Trial Court in Kalkaska. Judge Buday set bond at $2,500 - 10 percent cash surety for each charge, with a preliminary hearing date of may 23 in Kalkaska, according to KSO. Headapohl has been booked in and released on bond. The status of the case remains open, pending court process, according to the release.
