KALKASKA -ÊMarissa Taylor and Kara Ponstein pitched gems for the Kalkaska softball team, leading the Blazers to a win in the invitational it hosted Friday.

Taylor pitched a no-hitter in the opener against Benzie Central, a 10-0 victory. She struckout eight batters in the five-inning game. Katie Krause, Kaiti Jones and Megan Dunn had three hits each for Kalkaska. Kara Ponstein added two hits and Elise Williams an RBI triple.

Ponstein took the mound in the championship game against Roscommon, giving the Blazers their second shutout of the day. She allowed only one hit and had five strikeouts.

Jones led the offense with two home runs and seven RBI for Kalkaska. Ponstein had two hits and an RBI, Jordan Barber also added an RBI. Taylor pitched another win last week, against Charlevoix. She allowed only two hits in the opener, a 10-0 win. Bernadette Gillespie, Jones, Krause and Williams had RBIs for Kalkaska.

Errors cost the Blazers a doubleheader sweep however, dropping the second game 5-4. Ponstein pitched, allowing five hits and on earned run. She also led the offense with two hits and two RBI.
