"We found out that Elmer's Construction won," Russ LaRowe, Kalkaska Conservation District director said. "It was not quite $240,000, which was under budget."

Elmer's will begin work on the KART trail the day after Memorial Day, May 29.

According to LaRowe, Elmer's will be grading the trail corridor, putting down gravel, paving the trail and installing about 20 landscaping islands. Elmer's also will be moving fence near Birch Street Elementary and the school bus garage, LaRowe said.

"Rotary and Kiwanis helped raise $30,000 of our local match," LaRowe said. "Ferrier Surveying also did a lot of pro-bono work. We couldn't have done it without them."
