KALKASKA -- Voters will weigh-in on some important issues this coming Tuesday, May 8.
The following information will help voters decide before entering the voting booth. Here is an overview of what will be on the ballots throughout the county:
County-wide:
Proposed millage renewal and bond proposition for the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
This proposal will renew 1.6 mills of the 1.7 mills previously authorized to be levied for capital improvements at KMHC.
Proposed millage renewal for operation of the county recycling program and animal control.
Kalkaska Public Schools Board of Education:
Three people are on the ballot and there is a reported third (write-in candidate) for two seats on the KPS board of education.
James Peters, Jr. and Donna Wednieski both are incumbents. Michael Gaylord also will run for a spot.
Forest Area:
Voters will need to decide whether or not the Forest Area Community Schools should borrow $6 million to build addition(s), remodel, equip and furnish their schools.
Excelsior Twp. -- Crawford Schools:
Michelle Alick is running for an open four-year term on the board of education.
Kathleen Ellis is running to fill the partial term ending June 30, 2009.
Also, a Crawford School operating millage renewal proposal that will allow the school to continue to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills on all property, except principal residence, qualified agricultural property and qualified forest property required for the district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance.
