The preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Justin Michael Bielski, 17, of Rapid City, was traveling southbound on M-66, just north of Hardwood Lane and lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed, according to the release from the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Office. On Monday, Artress reported that the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team was able to take the evidence left at the scene and calculated the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash. The results reportedly show that the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash. Ê The vehicle reportedly left the roadway on the northbound shoulder of M-66, rolled over and struck a several trees before coming to rest. On Sunday, Bielski was reported to be in serious condition. On Monday, his condition was upgraded to fair. His passengers and their conditions were reported on Sunday as follows: Nickolas Martin Konsella, 16, of Rapid City, serious condition (upgraded to fair on Monday); Terrance Michael Tufford, 15, ofÊÊÊÊ Rapid City, was listed (and remained, as of Monday) in critical condition; Nicole Marie Hildebrand, 17, ofÊ Rapid City, suffered serious injuries. The accident remains under investigation under investigation by the Kalkaska County Accident Investigation Team. Emergency units were dispatched following a 9-1-1 call to Kalkaska Central Dispatch. Ê Kalkaska County Sheriff's Deputies as well as Kalkaska EMS, Northflight Ground Unit, Fife Lake Battalion #6, Boardman Township Fire & Rescue #9, and Kalkaska Township Station 7 responded to assist at the scene.Ê The Michigan Department of Transportation responded to the scene as well to clear the roadway of the loose gravel that was thrown on the road as a result of the accident. The investigation remains open. |
