Gordon leads Warriors to first place at Frankfort Invitational



FRANKFORT -Justin Gordon picked up two first place finishes as the Forest Area boys track team picked up the meet championship at the Frankfort Icebreaker Invitational last Saturday.

Scoring 157 points, the Warriors topped Elk Rapids, which had 119. Frankfort was third with 107.

Gordon turned in a time of 11.55 seconds in the 100-meter dash for a first place. Brandon Rookus came in second with a time of 12.01 seconds. Gordon had a first in the pole vault at 10 feet 6 inches.

The 3200-meter relay team of Matt Park, Carl Snyder, Nate Snyder and Luke Rookus won in a time of 9:20.65, breaking the old school record of 9:33.

Ben Wyatt, Brandon Rookus, Bob Hatfield and Gordon won the 400-meter relay in a time of 47.28 seconds.

Luke Rookus captured a first place medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.35.

They were second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:38.21.

Mitchell Core finished second in the long jump at 17 feet 3 inches. Luke Rookus was second in the 1600-meter run in 5:09.51.

Brandon Rookus had a second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 45.16 seconds.

Carl Snyder finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11.37.13.

Hatfield was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.72 seconds. The 1600-meter relay team of Matt Park, Collin Park, Nate Snyder and Luke Rookus finished third in 4:01.41.

In the girls meet, Camille Tornow won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 19.1 seconds. Savanna Daniels placed third in the same event at 19.9 seconds.

The 800-meter relay team of Savanna Daniels, Camille Tornow, Katy Brown and Megan Dickinson was third in a time of 2:13.43.

Camille Tornow was second 300-meter hurdles in a time of 56.77 seconds. Emily Pojar took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44.4.

"It was a busy week," coach Ryan Meyer said. "We scored in every event (Saturday), I was real proud of the guys.

"A lot of kids were sore, and I'm really proud of them for what they did (Saturday). We're looking at a couple of kids to go to state, and they worked hard."

The Warriors finished second at a five-team invitational at Johannesburg-Lewiston in their first action of the season.

Pellston won the meet with 111 points, while Forest Area scored 80.

Gordon was first in the pole vault at 10 feet 6 inches and the 100 meters with a time of 12.2 seconds, Rookus had a first in the high jump at 5 feet 3 inches to tie him with Mitchell Core.

Luke Rookus took first place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:25.

Jeff Hulwick won the shot put with a throw of 37 feet 3 1/2 inches while Collin Park took second at 35 feet 10 inches and Matt Park finished third at 34 feet and 3 1/2 inches.

The 1600-meter relay team of Collin Park, Matt Park, Nate Snyder and Luke Rookus was first in a time of 4:03.

Carl Snyder finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:29, while Ryan Landon took fifth with his personal best time of 13:34.

Forest Area was fourth in the 3200-meter relay as the team of Matt Park, Carl Snyder, Nathan Snyder and Luke Rookus finished with a time of 9:49.

Collin Park took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.95 seconds. Matt Park was third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 53.4 seconds.

The girls scored 18 points, an improvement over last year's finish.

Megan Dickinson was third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.08 seconds, followed by Becca Arpan in fourth place with a time of 15.09 seconds. She was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.2 seconds.

The 1600-meter relay team of Megan Adams, Megan Monks, Savanna Daniels and Megan Dickinson was third in a time of 5:13.7.

Savanna Daniels finished third in the 300-meter low hurdles with a time of 57.9 seconds.

Megan Monks was fifth in the high jump at 4 feet 4 inches.

"We don't have the depth other teams do, but they pretty much scored in every event they entered," Meyer said. "I was proud of them." Ê Ê
