The children's fishing contest, which will be held on has been moved from the Mill Pond to a pond at C & C Well Drilling, at 344 M-66 SE, at the M-72 intersection. The new site will offer more accessibility. The goal is for every child to catch a fish. The NTF board is still seeking sponsors for the kids' fishing contest. A $30 donation will help purchase larger fish to stock the pond. The official NTF opening ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on April 25, kicking off a number of new events. At 6:20, the Greater Kalkaska Chamber of Commerce (by the Big Trout), will host an open house, and "Taste of Trout,Ó featuring recipes prepared by six or more local restaurants. The flea market will open Saturday, April 26 at 11 am. Shady Belle entertainment will begin Thursday afternoon, however, the food concession, run by Pathways Arts Council will be open by 11 a.m. Entertainment will run until Saturday night. Patrons will enjoy participating in the silent auction, which will be held during the Shady Belle. The Trout Entertainment Tent will begin at the same time at the fairgrounds, featuring Battle of the Bands, Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Battle of the Band finals will be held Friday night at 6 p.m. The carnival will begin at 4 p.m., Thursday. An Ugly Truck contest will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kalkaska United Methodist Church. There will be a classic auto show, shopping cart races down Cedar St., parades, the flea market, and the craft show. At 6 p.m., Friday, the 71st crowning of the NTF King and Queen will take place at Calvary Baptist Church. There is the Rotary /Wood Memorial Race, a reptile display, swap meets, kids' games, golf, rummage sales, and breakfasts, sponsored by various service groups. Entry forms for contests are available online at nationaltroutfestival.com. All entries are free. This year's National Trout Festival promises to be one to remember. Battle of the Bands The preliminary for the Battle of the Bands will begin at 6 p.m. in the Trout Tent, at the fairgrounds. Kalkaska Idol. Kalkaska Idol will be held in the Trout entertainment tent, located just past the Carnival at the Fairgrounds. 2007 Rules and Regulations One day only, Saturday April 28, 2007 There will be three rounds: 1st round 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 2nd round 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. 3rd round 5 p.m. to the last performer There will be a panel of three local judges. The judges are looking for voice quality, performance and the wow factor. Keep it clean. They may disqualify you at any time. The judges will determine who will continue to the final rounds. A Karaoke DJ will be onsite to spin the music for all contestants. There will be three age groups. Shady Belle Come to Shady Belle to rest, relax and be entertained. Shady Belle has been a time honored event and gathering place for our local folks, as well as a family spot for our visitors to the area to rest, relax and be entertained. Shady Belle features on-stage talent and home-maid refreshments. We are expecting visitation, as always, from Roscoe the Clown. Shady Belle is located in the village police garage. National Trout Festival Youth Parade Friday, April 28, 2007 Formation time: from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Judging: begins at 1:45 p.m. Parade starting time: 2 p.m. Parade theme: "Hooked on Family FunÓ Report upon your arrival to the registration tables at the Senior Center on Cherry Street. You will be issued your parade line-up number. The parade route will begin on Cherry Street, proceed to Fifth Street, then to US 131, down US 131 to Third Street, then return to the Senior Center on Cherry Street. Maxium height of the Floats and displayed entries may not exceed 13 feet 6 inches. Remember these safety regulations: No flowers, candy, samples, or anything whatsoever may be thrown out or passed out from any unit. (Excited children could be trampled or pushed under vehicles.) No riders are permitted to leave their formation to shake hands or mingle with the crowd along the parade route. Adequate vision must be provided for drivers of self-contained units. No dangerous act, fireworks, weapons discharge, or sudden loud noise will be permitted near animals. Animal groups: Please provide your own "bucket brigadeÓ to pick up after your animals. Bad weather: Information will be broadcast as quickly as possible. Listen to TV stations 9&10 and 7&4. Spaces will be available for all Youth Parade winners in the Saturday Grand Royal Parade. If you are a category winner on Friday, just check in at parade headquarters on Saturday. All judging will take place prior to the Parade start. All entries must be in line by 1:45 p.m. to be eligible for judging.
