McCully wins Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards

ANN ARBOR - Bruce McCully, a 1995 Kalkaska High School graduate and founder of Dynamic Edge, an Information and Business Technology consulting company based in Ann Arbor will be recognized at the 2007 Michigan Celebrates Small Business Award ceremony as the Small Business Administration of Michigan's Young Entrepreneur of the Year, on April 12.Ê

McCully also will be recognized as the Midwest Region, Region 5, Young Entrepreneur of the Year.ÊRegion 5 includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

McCully grew up on a small farm in Alden. The sale of a ribbon-winning 4-H Black Angus steer financed McCully's first laptop in high school.Ê Hoping to become a doctor, he pursued a degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan.ÊAs a volunteer for St Joseph Mercy Hospital, he realized that the medical profession was not his passion.ÊHe switched majors, and studied computer engineering, eventually graduating with a BSE in computer engineering.Ê

Hoping to gain experience to later secure a "real job," McCully founded Dynamic Edge while still a senior in college in 1999, at the age of 22.Ê When more and more companies were looking to reduce personnel and outsource their IT services during the burst of the tech bubble in the late 90s, McCully saw a demand for a service. ÊLike any enterprising entrepreneur, he took the opportunity to start a business.Ê

However, McCully said he owes his success to the luck of being in the right place at the right time.ÊA cold-call marketing campaign and compounding word of mouth referrals created an explosion of growth in revenue and personnel.

As Dynamic Edge has grown, so has its owner.ÊOnce inexperienced, unsure, and unproven, Bruce McCully, has now developed into a strategic, thoughtful leader of 34 employees and a company that has sustained an average of 64 percent revenue growth each year for the last four years. No longer keeping a struggling startup alive, McCully now has the opportunity to tackle the growth issues of a successful business.

Dynamic Edge, Inc. is an Information and Business Technology consulting company based in Ann Arbor.ÊNamed a Future 50 of Metro Detroit, the company looks to expand to a second office in 2007.ÊFounded in 1999, Dynamic Edge, Inc. helps small and mid-size businesses reach their full potential through pragmatic and innovative technological solutions such as: desktop and server support, custom database construction, network design and support, Web site and Web application development, software and hardware purchasing, as well as technical and business training.

"Awards like this help people who work in small business realize that they are making a difference," McCully said. "I am very excited that I was chosen for this award, I think it really shows what great things our staff is doing. It also reminds us how important it is to continue to facilitate the entrepreneurial spirit. We all need to continue to think of ways to push boundaries, toÊcome up with new ideas to help turn this state around."
