Dog and car survive fire

KALKASKA - A passerby reportedly rescued a dog from a vehicle fire in front of the Michigan WORKS! office last Wednesday, March 26.

Kevin Rohn, a Kalkaska Village Police officer and Derek Hogerheide, Kalkaska Twp. Fire Department Station 7 assistant chief, were able to put out the fire that was contained in the trunk, with a fire extinguisher.

According to Hogerheide, the electrical fire was caused by aftermarket stereo equipment.

"Someone on the sidewalk got the dog out and called 9-1-1," Hogerheide said. "It was a small fire and it didn't do a lot of damage."

There were no injuries.
