Herbert Krahl

Herbert J. Krahl, 82, of Rapid City, died after a short illness, on February 27, 2007. He died peacefully in the presence of his brother, Louis, and his caregivers at Christwood Hills.

Herb was born in Detroit on May 10, 1924, to Eugene and Regina Krahl, who had immigrated from Austria and Germany a few years earlier. Herb and his brother, Louis, were electricians in the Detroit area for several years and retired to the family home on Elk Lake. Later, he moved to the Rapid City area. Herb and Louis spent their entire lives together working and enjoying nature and animals. He enjoyed meeting people and telling stories. He was a frugal man who lived a simple and humble life. For the past two years, Herb was a devoted caregiver for his brother.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Regina and his brother, Eugene. He is survived by his brother, Louis, and many friends, neighbors and acquaintances. His presence will be sadly missed by those that knew him. HerbŐs last wish was that "He be remembered as a good guy who took care of animals, fed the birds and loved dogs and cats."

Cremation has taken place and Herb will be buried with his family at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Detroit. Memorial contributions may be made to any animal shelter or a charity of oneŐs choice.

The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
