The KSO release stated that central dispatch received a 911 call at 4:36 p.m. about a snowmobile personal injury accident that occurred on a pipeline between Naples Road and Township Road in Garfield Twp.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Benedict was driving a 1999 Ski-Doo snowmobile on the pipeline and struck a parked snowmobile.

The snowmobile lost control and rolled over several times, according to KSO. Benedict reportedly was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City by North Flight.

Benedict sustained severe head and neck injuries and was listed in critical condition, the KSO release said.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident, according to KSO. The investigation into the crash continues, by the KSO accident investigation team.

KSO, Garfield Twp. Fire and Rescue, Kalkaska EMS and North Flight all responded to the scene.
