The junior upped his record to 35-2 by sweeping all three of his matches. Also qualifying for regional action was senior Ben Wyatt, who lost in the semifinal round and wound up fourth at 160 pounds. Wyatt improved his record to 31-8. Gordon began the day in dominating fashion, recording a 15-0 technical fall victory over Karl Meister of Farwell. He followed that up with a 10-4 decision over Tyler Lajko of Kingsley, and he earned the title by knocking off Jordan Peterson of BlanchardMontabella in the championship match with a 14-3 decision. Wyatt started out well, picking up two victories to reach the semifinals. He pinned Frankfort wrestler William Pearce in 2:40, and then defeated Shilo Chapman of Farwell, 11-6. But he went down to the consolation bracket when he lost to Andy Anderson, the top-rated wrestler in Michigan at 160 from Traverse City St. Francis, by a 10-3 score. Wyatt came back to pin David Jackson of Manton in 4:56, before losing to Dan Parker of Pine River in the consolation finals by a 5-2 decision. "It was a nice showing, having two wrestlers qualify for state,"Warriors coach Robert Morgan said. "We had a young team this year. "Numbers hurt us, as they did all of the teams from this area. But, there's a lot of promise for the future." Wyatt and Gordon will compete in the regionals at Rogers City on Saturday. |
