Conditions contribute to crash

KALKASKA -The temperature plummeted from a balmy 38 to 15 in less than two hours this past Thursday afternoon. Slush and water on area roads quickly turned to ice.

At about 3:20 p.m. the Kalkaska County Sheriff Office responded to a two vehicle accident on County Road 612, just east of the Twin Birch Golf Course, near Timber Trail Road.

According to KSO, Jillian Marie Wood, of Kalkaska, was driving a 1999 Saturn westbound on CR-612 and lost control on the snow-covered road.

The KSO report stated that the vehicle began to fishtail and crossed the center line.

Michael Allen-Odell Caven, of Kalkaska, was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan eastbound on CR-612, when the Saturn collided with his vehicle, according to the report.

According to the KSO report, neither one of the vehicles was drivable. No airbags deployed and neither driver sought treatment at the hospital, the report stated.

Manistee Lake Garage Towing was called to the scene.
