Commissioners on Monday night accepted the resignation of long-time office manager/clerk Lori Harbour, effective Feb. 11.

Harbour did not give any clue as to where she was going, or if she had a job lined up . She has been an employee of the commission since 1989.

ÒI think we ought to take some bids for the manager position,Ó board chairman George Nice, following a discussion as to why superintendent Tim Dorman was released from his duties recently.

ÒWe need to get this organization running and getting it to the place where it is supposed to be. This would give us an opportunity to see what we would have to look at. We canÕt continue to do business like weÕre doing. We need to look at what kind of people we can get.Ó

Nice also said managing director John Rogers made the decision to suspend Dorman from his duties and the commission was trying to correct that matter now.

ÒI am willing to work with Tim and give him a second chance,Ó Rogers said. During the discussion, a specific reason was not given as to reasons for DormanÕs dismissal, but it was stated the position needed to be filled and he could possibly be transferred to another spot. ÒThis is nothing good right here and things have got to change,Ó Nice said. ÒWe are dealing with the same personnel. This is like a stagnant little pond and we are not making any moves.Ó

Commissioners agreed to seek applicants for both the managing directorÕs position and that of Harbour, with advertisements being placed locally and regionally. Applicants have until Feb. 2 to seek the position. The motion also included the reinstatement of Dorman to his former position, effective immediately.

In the interim, road commissioner Margaret Custer was tabbed with drafting a proposed job description and salary schedule for the position. Commissioners said they did not have any access to any job descriptions for any of the present staff and are in the process of creating them.

Nice said all of the road commission employees, including Harbour and Rogers, are at-will employees, which means they can be dismissed at any time. ÒIt is going to be real interesting with two new people around here, at the same time, Custer said. Ò I canÕt wait for this.Ó

Custer cast the lone dissenting vote, saying she thought this was enough turmoil at the road commission at this time.

ÒWith Lori leaving we are going to have some awful changes and I think with that we need to have some stability around here with someone who has been here a little bit. I think we need to see where we think we are going. I am not opposed to it later, but this is just so much right now.Ó Nice said all the commission was doing was seeking resume from interested candidates for RogersÕ position. ÒThere is nothing wrong with just going out for resumes,Ó he said.

Rogers said he had no idea what would happen next, when asked after the meeting, which lasted nearly four hours.
