Bay Reps top Manistee, still in first



MANISTEE Ð Traverse St. Francis forward Dan Fisher scored one goal and had one assist, while St. Francis teammate Mike Kowalski also had one goal and one assist, on Saturday, Jan. 27, when the Traverse Bay Reps co-op hockey team defeated Northern Michigan Hockey League rival Manistee 5-2.

The Reps, who sit atop the NMHL standings with four wins and no losses, peppered Manistee goalie Nick Patulski with over 40 shots on the net, while out shooting the Chippewas 42-8 on their home ice. Fisher got the Reps on the scoreboard at 2:28 of the first period when he scored a short handed goal on assists from Kowalski and Matt Zagers (Elk Rapids).

The Reps scored two second period goals and led the contest 3-1 at the end of the middle session. Andrew Paulosky (ER) scored 55 seconds into the period and Ian Webb (ER) tallied a goal at 3:15 before Manistee finally got on the board midway through the period.

Mike Dixon (Kalkaska) assisted Paulosky, while Zagers and Tom Pritz (Suttons Bay) assisted Webb.

ÒWe dominated the game, but they got a breakaway goal in the second period. WeÕve won eight of our last ten games and weÕve only lost to TC Central and TC West,Ó said Reps coach Rex Luxton.

Dixon scored at 2:48 of the third period and Kowalski scored one minute later to close out the Reps scoring. Manistee tallied its second goal at 7:45 of the final period.

Elk RapidsÕ Andrew Mills got the win in the Reps goal. Bay Reps 4, Cadillac 0

Elk Rapids goalie Nick Rausch picked up his fourth win of the season, as well as his second shutout when the Bay Reps downed Cadillac 4-0 on Friday, Jan. 26.

Rausch made 20 saves and the Reps out shot Cadillac 29-20 for the game.

The Reps got started with the only goal of the opening period when Kowalski scored at the 13:59 mark on assists from Fisher and Ben Videan (TCSF).

In the second period Tinkle scored at 0:21 and Fisher scored two minutes later to put the Reps ahead 3-0. Kowalski and Fisher got the helpers on the Tinkle goal, while Fisher scored unassisted.

Anthony Armour (TCSF) scored at 3:53 of the third period to close out the scoring. Tinkle recorded the assist on the play.

ÒIt was sort of a funny game. Cadillac is kind of having a rough season. We were in charge and playing well, but it was back and forth all the way. Rausch did a good job to get the shutout,Ó said Luxton.

Traverse Bay (11-7-1) will play back to back games against Sault Ste. Marie on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3.
