Sports PUBLISHED:
Coach Rex Luxton felt a great deal better after watching his defense shutting down the Chippewas'much improved offense. Traverse City kept the pressure on the Manistee net for the entire game, and it resulted in several open looks. Grayson Myas enjoyed the most success for the Bay Reps, putting the puck in net twice during the game. Steve Srdjak and Mike Elliott both scored their first goals of the season as the Bay Reps started to click. It was actually junior defenseman Srdjak who broke the scoreless tie for the Bay Reps, netting the first goal of his high school career. Open at the point, Srdjak beat the Maniste goalkeeper with a shot that streaked into the net. Kalkaska's Dan Tinkle finished the game with three assists, while Andrew Zelinski added a pair and Tom Pritz had one. Manistee had 12 shots on goal against the Bay Reps, but all of them were stopped by goalie Andrew Mills. Traverse City improved to 2-3 in the league and 5-11 overall. Despite outshooting Grandville 11-1 in overtime, the Bay Reps had to settle for a 3-3 tie last Saturday. Brandon Ferguson scored the tying goal with 4:23 left in the second period. Michael Elliott and Ian Webb had the assists for the Bay Reps. Tinkle had an unassisted goal 1:28 into the third period which gave the Reps a 2-1 lead. Just eight seconds later, however, Andy Grypma gave Grandville the lead again, 3-2, with a power play goal. Another unassisted goal by Tinkle knotted the score again, and that's how it would end. The Bay Reps (6-11-1) play again on Friday at Midland Dow. |
