ÒThe community really came out to support us,Ó said Ken Waichunas, Winterfest board president. ÒWith the adversity we faced, it came out really well.Ó

More than $600 were raised to support Special Olympics.

ÒHal Dufford (Kalkaska ) was the one who thought of connecting with Wertz Warriors and the Special Olympics,Ó Waichunas said. ÒThey were really excited.Ó

Dufford, Waichunas and their spouses will present the check to Wertz Warriors next week.

ÒWe also have been asked to give sled dog rides at the Special Olympics on January 23 in Traverse City,Ó Waichunas said.

ÒThe vendors at Winterfest did pretty well,Ó Waichunas said. ÒWe wonÕt have final numbers until next week.

ÒOverall, having the races canceled affected the number of people there but it was a lot of fun.Ó
