Warriors win big



FIFE LAKE - On Thursday, Jan. 4 the Forest Area junior varsity volleyball squad played the Mancelona Ironmen escaping with a decisive victory in the match.

The Warriors won all three games of the match, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-5. Cassie McGee (15-15 serving), Renee Henry (6-6 serving) contributed to the stat sheet, while Moly Lockwood and Megan Johnson both provided solid court games to help lead their team to victory.

Forest Area at JohannesburgÊTourney

The Warriors, fresh off a win at Mancelona two days prior, marched into Johannesburg on Saturday, Jan. 6 and walked away smiling with a first place finish and an all around good showing for their team.

Forest Area started off the 10 team tournament facing Bellaire, winning in both games, 25-9 and 25-24.Ê They then played St. Ignace (25-9, 25-15), Mancelona (25-23, 2519) and Onaway (20-25, 21-25).

For their efforts, the girls were able to move on to the semifinals round, set to play Johannesburg.ÊThe Warriors responded, ripping off two wins, 25-20 and 25-23.Ê Next for the streaking Warriors was the finals, in which they faced Onaway (with the loss they suffered to them earlier in the tourney fresh in their minds).ÊThe Warriors won, 2517 and 25-10 to capture a first place finish in their first tournament of the year. Cassie McGee (46-49 serving), Megan Johnson (28-33 serving, seven kills), Chelsea Strine (50-52 serving), Megan Monks (15 kills) and Molly Lockwood (nine kills) all helped in achieving the victory.

Head coach Susie Greter was pleased with the win and was happy everybody got to play.Ê The Warriors record improves to 7-3 overall on the season.
