Mrs. Mathews was born April 28, 1930, in Lansing, was raised in Kalkaska and moved to the Gaylord area in the early 1960s.Ê She dearly loved her family and looked forward to family get-togethers.Ê She was also an avid small game hunter.

Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her husband Matt.

She is survived by her children:Ê Gerry (Ellen) Mathews of Gaylord, June Copenhaver of Colorado, Mark (Beverly) Mathews of Gaylord, Kandy (Gary) Thornton of Gaylord; grandchildren:Ê Krisann (Rob) Jackson, Jerry Mathews, Teresa Martin, Marsha & Adam Mathews, Megan, Meredith, Allison and Katelynn Thornton; great grandchildren:Ê Sebastian Mathews and Collin Kosinski; brothers & sister:Ê John, Bob & Cecil Thorington and Bernice Helsel.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor Mark Hoult officiating.ÊBurial took place at Coldsprings Cemetery in Mancelona.

Visitation took place on Thursday from noon until the time of services.
