Deputies responded to the scene and learned that the subject had fled the home and hidden in a ravine, before fleeing to his residence a short distance away. Deputies eventually were able to talk the subject from the residence, but while taking him into custody, he became violent and was wrestled to the ground. The hand of one of the officers became pinned to the ground and was severely bitten by Vonins during the struggle, before the officers regained control of Vonins and took him into custody. The deputy received a severe cut to the back side of his hand as a result of the bite from Vonins. He was transported to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center where he was treated and released. Prosecutor Brian Donnelly authorized the following charges: Home invasion, second degree (15 year felony and/or $3,000 fine); Assaulting/resisting/obstructing/ causing injury to a police officer; Habitual offender, fourth offense notice. Magistrate Deb Hill set bond in the amount of $20 thousand dollars cash bond. Sheriff deputies were assisted by the Kalkaska Village Police Department. |
